Hi all:

The 17th Texas Cavalry is mentioned in various locations on the
Internet. Perhaps we could compile a listing of every site where the
regiment has been mentioned. A Web based bibliography might lead us to
a more complete understanding of the details, experiences and history of
this unit.

I will try to submit a few each day.

Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System:
http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/index.html
This site offers the opportunity to download a listing of
every soldier in the 17th Texas Cavalry. No regimental history is
posted for the 17th Texas Cavalry at this time.

Confederate Regiments formed in Northeast Texas Counties:
http://gen.1starnet.com/civilwar/otherreg.htm
This site lists the 17th Texas Cavalry as being formed in
Red River County, Texas?

1905 Confederate Veterans Picnic – Gregg County, Texas:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~txgregg/ConfederatePicnic.html
Several members of the 17th Texas Cavalry were in attendance
at this picnic. The web site includes a photograph and asks for the
identification of individuals shown.

Texas Confederate Journal Project:
http://www.cba.uh.edu/~parks/tex/texreb1.html
This site lists the 17th Texas Cavalry but has not posted
the regimental history. This is an ambitious project and proposal from
two professors at the University of Houston.

Texas in the Civil War: http://www.tarleton.edu/~kjones/CStx.html#TX-Cav
This page is part of a larger site. Follow the links
through the Cavalry and scroll down to the 17th. There are additional
links that will take you to the Handbook of Texas On-Line for a short
biography of Col. George F. Moore and to the Texas State Archives site
that has a picture of a regimental flag.

The Handbook of Texas On-Line:
http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/search.html
Try various searches to find topics and information related
to the 17th Texas Cavalry.
